The Department of History at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of transnational modern Europe, 1789-1989, including international history and/or the study of historical processes, institutions, or subjects that move beyond the framework of the sovereign nation-state. The search welcomes applications from junior scholars working on any region of Europe apart from the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. In addition to offering courses that serve students in History, the successful candidate will be required to teach on a regular basis an undergraduate lecture course on the history of international relations, a vital need for Penn's International Relations major. Receipt of the Ph.D. is expected by the time of appointment.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, writing sample, and three letters of recommendation to be submitted separately by their authors. If the writing sample is part of a dissertation or larger project, include an abstract explaining the writing sample's relation to the larger project.
