Description
The Department of History at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer with the anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. We are searching for a world historian with a focus on East, Central, or South Asian history-chronology and specialization are open.
This is a 1-year appointment as a 9-month faculty member, with the possibility of renewal. Teaching load is 4/4, but usually no more than 2 course preparations a semester.
While this is primarily a teaching position, any possibilities for career advancement to associate and senior lecturer with commensurate rise in pay would require some attention to research and service.
Salary range: $40,000-$45,000, depending on qualifications, plus benefits. Summer teaching for additional salary may also be available. Lecturers are also eligible to apply for teaching and professional development funds, pending department and university resources.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- PhD in history or a closely related field. Individuals who are "all but dissertation" (ABD) will be considered; however, the degree must be awarded within twelve months of the start date of employment.
- Ability to teach introductory courses in World and Asian history.
- Ability to teach advanced courses in Asian history, in field of specialization.
- Ability to teach historical methods courses (i.e., HIST 2100 and HIST 4020).
- Willingness and ability to engage in alternative modes of instruction, including online instruction.
- Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan.
